Flavio Boltro NextGen

A new jazz super-ensemble that bridges generations, bringing together the immense experience of iconic Italian trumpeter Flavio Boltro with the creative force of three of the most distinctive young voices in today’s Italian jazz scene: pianist Emanuele Filippi, double bassist Michelangelo Scandroglio, and drummer Mattia Galeotti.

All four musicians are active bandleaders, recognized for their individual artistic identities and international careers. Together, they create a sound that is both deeply rooted in the jazz tradition and boldly contemporary, blending melodic lyricism, rhythmic interplay and a forward-thinking improvisational approach.

Flavio Boltro is one of Europe’s most celebrated trumpeters. A former member of Michel Petrucciani’s legendary quintet, he has collaborated with an extraordinary roster of artists including Michel Portal, Cedar Walton, Billy Higgins, Steve Grossman and many more. With albums on Blue Note and ACT Music, Boltro is known for his virtuosity, warm tone, and rare sensitivity — qualities that have made him a central figure in the European jazz landscape for over three decades.

Michelangelo Scandroglio, among the most acclaimed new-generation bassists and composers in Italy, has won major awards including the Umbria Jazz Competition (selected by Paolo Fresu), the “Tomorrow’s Jazz” prize by Veneto Jazz, and the Riga International Bass Competition. His music, both acoustic and hybrid, explores contemporary grooves, narrative composition and cross-genre influences.

Emanuele Filippi is an Italian pianist and composer whose work combines lyrical clarity, harmonic sophistication and strong rhythmic awareness. Active on both the European and American scenes, he has released critically appreciated albums as a leader and has collaborated with internationally respected musicians across generations.

Mattia Galeotti is a drummer known for his dynamic versatility, refined sound and articulate sense of time. Active in numerous contemporary jazz projects, he brings a modern rhythmic approach that balances subtlety and fire — making him a sought-after presence in Italy’s rising jazz movement.

Grounded in modern jazz language but open to cross-genre aesthetics, Flavio Boltro NextGen explores original compositions characterized by melodic clarity, rhythmic depth and collective interaction. The project embraces the dialogue between history and innovation: Boltro’s vast artistic journey meets the curiosity, energy and freshness of three creative young improvisers.
